I'm back! #.#
Sigh... so fast, my slightly more than 2 weeks stay in Sri Lanka has come to an end and I'm ponked back to the crazy routine of everyday life in Singapore... can't even comprehend with myself that I'm back within the 1st 3 days of return.
As Sri Lanka is 2 hours behind our time, I had to make adjustments to my eating and sleeping schedule and I missed the closeness I felt when interacting with my group over there where every night, either we sit down to chit-chat, play cards (I think we played every single card games we know and I got to learn some interesting ones too), Uno, Scrabble or a night walk to the beach where we would climb up this small cliff (yes, in the dark of the night) to enjoy the stars (really beautiful skies there) and the never ceasing sea breeze.
One word for Sri Lanka: beautiful. I have enjoyed the people, the culture, the pace of life, the simple lifestyle and of coz, comprehended with the effects of the tsunami, the effect it had to the people, not just physically, emotionally but also politically and socially (this one is a little more deep but I will explain later). This place is quiet, everyone just going about their own business while maintaining a certain coummunity harmony which you instanteously felt when interracting amongst them. They are so free with the "Hellos!" and "How are you?" that you felt very welcome. They smile a lot... shy smiles, broad welcoming smiles but hey, they smile to you even when they don't know you or even waiting for the bus to the next town.
the natural landscapes there are breathtaking, although we were confined to only the areas of Balapitiya, Ambalangoda, Kikkaduwa (I managed to go to Galle but only the outskirts), Negrombo and Colombo but these places' landscape and architectures are enough to wow the "WOW!" out of you when you see them. And we are only talking about the southern-east parts of the whole country... they say the northern parts are even more beautiful with the unspoilt forest, tea planatations in Kandy, Elephants and temples and the inland areas like Adam's peak and Sirigiya...etc...
A pity that we can't really stay that long for our main priority is service the local community with our labour: building beds and shelves but we did the next best thing: got everyone including the locals involved. Main objective was to interract and give ownership to them as it's their stuff, not ours that we leave to them...
The process was good and efficient with us divided into teams and coming up with a factory style bed-building blue print that allows us to build a bed within 1/2 hour including a little trimming here and there. All of us were sun-burnt to a certain extend but glad that when the work was finished, it was all worth it.
I've taken quite some amount of pictures but think I may have messed up with my metering mode... sigh... now comes the tedious part of editing the photos one by one...
Okie, written enough to get myself blogging again... till tomorrow.. : )
welcome back. anticipating the nice pics of the said views. :)
