Similiarities and Differences

And it took a few trips to IKEA to make sense of who we are as individuals and who we are as a couple :)

Situation: Ms Clover renovating her room for a fresh new look. Her furniture seems to be stuck in the early 90s era and so she decided to up and out the old and go for something new.

For me, I'm inclined towards a design feel - nice minimalistic look with living spaces combined with aesthetic forms. I guessI'm the type that can sacrifice a whole lot of space just for the aesthetic look.

For her, it's more practicality in line with the minimalistic look but not necessary nice in aesthetics. Can be a nightmare for a interior designer who goes for the form than the necessaries.. hehehe

When going through IKEA, there's a lot of design ideas that just swirl in my head and I have to pre-visualise in the form of sketches so to make sense of proporations, color schemes and feel but there, our difference lies: she looks at a furniture for its level of practicality before deciding on aesthetics and she does not like to previsualise (interior designer's headache starts here)

Yeah, she did the measurements and stuff but there's just something about buying a furniture and knowing where it's going to go to in a room then to get a furniture, place it at its convenient spot and decide later if it should move. You can tell that I had some exasperating times trying to show her on the sketches that it may not look nice at all if the placement has been of such arrangements but then her arguement did makes sense in terms of her need for storage spaces and of coz, we don't wanna blow the budget that we set aside for the room.

Well, I think that's where it's like a juvenile step into the future of house planning starts: we went through (again and again the design of her room, the furniture we selected initially and played around the combination till we found one that we are truly satisfied with. Keeping in mind the basic theme is minimalistic but soothing, we are going for the dark wood accent with tungsten lighting placed strategically in the room. Simple clean lines against the original white painted walls and practical spaces within the furniture for her storage usage. Combination of living and space commodity.

The furnitures are selected finally on Sunday and to be delievered by Wed. Hopefully, the room will be uppity by Friday night and will post some shots of the before and after here...

Meantime, it's more clean up and moving things around...
