Can't sleep so ...
If ever war is going to break out, all SAF soldiers should and must watch this film. The total chaos of war, the immense pressure to get your mission done amidst heavy retaliation from the enemy, the physchology of hearing your team mates screaming in pain, the trauma of war in its worst kind... perhaps, having to endure pain physically while trying to get your men under your charge to get out or to defend your ground.
How realistic this film is.. I would say it's 101%. Though I haven't been to a war (thank God for that) but this film has all the elements within it that makes you sit up and watch with intensity.
WHen the bullets really start flying over your head, then you will have to do what you are trained to do... but will we have the courage to hold our wits to do it? In the show, they had all the sophisticated equipment: infra red beeper indicators, individual comms equipment, GPMGs and the works but it really boils down to the character. Several of them were unexpecting a war with the Somalians to break out so when the firing started they were totally in shock and it takes strong leadership and characters to guide them back to where they were trained to do. Of coz during the whole episode, 19 men from the US side died.
The whole film really showcased a lot of stuff SAF soldiers are training for or being doctrinted - the use of comms, the basic discipline, the need for C&C...
really a film worth watching again :)
