A little tribute

The Singapore creative industry lost one of her own yesterday afternoon when renowned make-up artist, Freddy Ong, passed away after battling personal illness for the past few months.

Freddy is known for his excellent natural & dramatic bridal/ fashion make-up and is a resident make-up artist with The Wedding Present.

Personally, when I heard the news from Wansheng, I was quite shocked coz' it was rather unexpected. Though the wedding industry is considered small in Singapore and more often than not, to meet up with the same make-up artist time and again is quite common, I haven't seen Freddy since Jan this year.

Although we are not close but working with him is always a light-hearted affair with him telling jokes and teasing brides for being themselves. His flamboyance and yet gentle manner often tend to calm nervous brides and settle down to be docile ladies in his skillful hands and his make-up brushes and powder.

Many of the brides I have shot have nothing but great praises for his work in transforming them into glamorous stars for their once-in-a-lifetime event. Their friends echoed the accolades too and often be the next client for him.

It's entertaining to watch him work his magic on brides and he often makes work easier for us, photographers, by inducing natural reactions from our subjects and sometimes we along with it. Such is his charm in breaking the ice and warming up the atmosphere for everyone.

It was very unfortunate that he has fallen ill the last few months of his life and with complications setting in, succumbed to them finally. At the prime of his life and career, he has to let everything go.

and we lost a great talent.

For those who know Freddy personally or professionally, his wake is held at Ang Mo Kio Ave 3, block 231 (void deck) til this Sunday 11am.

Hey Ron! I just heard abt Freddy's passing and Googled him...and guess what, got to your site. You oso facebooking ah? I'll add you! By the way, you still seem to owe me something :P Rhoda

Oh but yeah, I'm really sad. Really liked Freddy. Don't really know him that well but he was easy to talk too and always had a witty retort. He was integral to my happy wedding memories. :( Sobs

I found about the demise of Freddy in Quan YF's blog and find him very familiar. Then i remember seeing him in one of the bridal shows and he is a very lively guy with a great sense of humour. A talented guy is gone and i am saddened. Ya like what fluff said i googled him and came into your website. Freddy, Rest In Peace! from Kaze, Ballroom DJ.

I'm an Australian makeup artist and was head of wardrobe makeup and wigs for Esplanade for 4 years having lived here for 16years in singapore. Freddy was one of the first makeup artists that I met here. He was always so lovely to work with, what a gem, he was never threatened by other makeup people and he use to share his knowlege and techniques so freely which is rare.

I shall miss Freddy he was a wonderful human being, my whole team at Esplanade will miss him too!

I hope that some one who reads this will pass on my condolences to his parents as I do not know them. I wish I had known that he was ill , I would have been right there for him. God bless Freddy.
