The story goes as we decided to go to the Yaohan located @ the Macau Ferry Terminal after spending about 3 hours in Senado Square. Now, Yaohan (if you guys can remember) is the departmental store that preceded our Taka/ Wisma/CK Tang..but closed down. Well, it's still very active overseas.
Yaohan is pronounced as ba bai ban over in HKG/ Macau/ Taiwan and China and not yao han.
The silly duo (that's us) mistakenly did this pronounciation mistake and ask the bus driver @ Senado Square bus stop if the bus goes to YaoHan. As there was a sign on the bus that read Yao Han, we decided to try it out. The big boo-boo... there's an actual neighbourhood area in Macau (quite near the ferry terminal, thank God!) called Yao Han also. And so we ended up there but I got a good view of the real Macau living - almost like leaving Orchard/ town area and stumbled into the older estates in Singapore. Wet markets, long alleys with housing apartments towering over..etc
Nice blog, wish your images could be viewed larger.

did u guys panic when u realise that you could possibly be lost?
I really like the idea of visiting the heartlands when in a foreign land. I've always wondered why tourists in SG do not come to the heartlands like AMK or TPY. There's so much more to see and try like the food, the activities in the CCs and so on. When I do have foreign friends over, I will bring them for a nice heartland breakfast, complete with black carrot cake, tehpeng, kaya toast etc. Keke... the black carrot cake usually turns them off initially. They will eye it suspiciously, probably thinking it is some fried organism. LOL.

actually I am hoping for something like this to happen coz that's the only way I feel I can see the real place I'm visiting.
Honestly it's a little frightening also especially if you are in a land where it's big and it's hard to find a return route but thank God it's Just HKG/ Macau (hopefully my Paris trip won't be like that)
Indeed, you should. The heartland is where the true natre of the place is. I totally agree with your thinking and actions. That's also how we discover Taipei when we were there.. Just walk and walk without the map and viola! Something in the street corner that caught our eyes..
