Erica Lai's work
I love the whimsical yet carefully detailed composition in her shots... it's really something that I would look again and again and then discover new details everytime...
Do check it out!

The pictures are very stark and gritty. I feel uncomfortable looking at them for some inexplicable reason.
But then again, it means that the pics are powerfully communicative.

naniecheng: yupz, it's a little edgey and somewhat unsettling coz it's not in any form a mainstream photography but what I like is her idealogy behind it. It's really an appreciation session on her work.
silver-CRV:yeah.. the thing is that people tend to brush off the whole thing as their OWN interpretation. Art is something that either appeals or not. There must be logical and substantial reasons why she was nominated for outstanding youth award and some CS-ers just brush it off coz they dun see the beauty in her works. If their own artistic vallue is below par, then it's just a sad irony to dismiss Erica's work as no-meaning.
In general sense, we see what we want to see and if we don't understand it, we don't appreciate it. like my replies in that same thread, Art is so and so it is. I admire the way she frames her pictures with good lightings, sometimes with a direct starkness to it and questionably, how many photogs can do it the way she shot them?
