Waiting's over...

After considering for a long time, I decided to take the leap into Symbian technology and bought a new phone that comes equipped with it.

The Nokia 6680!

Offical Nokia Website on the Nokia 6680

At first, some friends asked me why I didn't get the N70 since the platforms & shapes are very similar and the N70 is a definite powerhouse over the N6680. The N6680 appeals more in terms of the button placement and design. Given the look, it looks like a al-cheapo version of the Vertu design phone layout (droolzzz.....)

The N70 has many features which I think I will never get to use them unless I'm into video editing on the fly and serious, there's a shortage of good cover colors for the N70. I was pleasantly surprised to be offered the black one for the N6680 as I originally thought that there's only 2 colors - blue and brown metallic. The black goes very well witht he silver finishing at the edges, making it a very classic phone with an sexy appeal.

Getting used to the Symbian OS takes a little time as I'm too used to the Series 40 kind of operation; the new OS is more intuitive and complicated as compared to my old N6230.

The cool thing about the N6680 is the camera - a 1.3 mpx camera (Back cam) that takes a very impressive 1280 x 768 x 72dpi res picture and coupled with a small flash for exposure compensation when shooting in the low lights. The front camera (for 3G) is rather normal, lower res but the colors are pretty good. Lotsa softwares for usages - instant editing on the pictures... videos and creating your own MoBlog!

Hehehe.... not a bad investment! ^.^ okie, off to download more stuff for the phone!

heh... I am actually looking at this and N70 as well...

Think you must compare the stats lor... I didn't get the N70 coz the battery life is not as good as the N6680 (this was one of the factors that influenced my decision) and of coz the button placement of the N70 isn't really nice also... heheh ^.^

both of the stats are too similar - only the camera is better, presence of the radio function, the speed of the Symbian OS is slightly faster in the N70

wah this is so totally beyond me. I guess my requirements for a handphone are pretty simple and primitive: can make call and sms good enuff. of course must be fast. My hubby's Sony Ericsson is so SLOW... maybe too many functions built in. IMO the functions are dead weight because our lifestyle does not require them. Speed is very very important for me. The phone has got to be able to match the speed of my fingers. Don't like waiting for the phone to react to the commands I input.

Same goes for PCs.

ohh... actually not really that complicated although it takes some getting used to.

The OS is not as fast like you mentioned due to the processes that it runs in the foreground and background but one thing I like about the phone is the fact that you can install apps like an operating OS. So far, I have gotten an eBook reader, a ogg player, Ngage Games .. etc installed. Looking for a eBook Bible.

It may be slower than the Series 40 phones but it packs more stuff for the mobility. THe future of handphones.
